Fish School Stewardship Program Community & School-based Activities Ideas for Teacher Presentations |
Back to Community & School-based Activities Fish School Makes Splash at Wolf Lake Wonderland Fest My display at the 5th Annual Winter Wonderland Fest at Wolf Lake was mostly a passive one since I was one of the festival planners and my help was needed in the fest events. I set up my table program that was entitled "Calumet Beginnings" by Dr. Kenneth Schoon of Indiana University Northwest. Individuals and a few families spoke to me about safe fish and picked up several of the handouts I had displayed on the table in front of my large poster unit. The displays, including my fish school table, were arranged in the center's large kitchen. Visitors browsed through the exhibits early when we served rolls and coffee and juice, between the programs, and during the free lunch served to visitors, presenters, and workers. We had 73 visitors in the morning at the environmental center. We had an additional 20 people in the afternoon at the sportsmen's club, not counting the people who caravanned from the morning sessions. My exhibit consisted of a 55-inch long by 30-inch high poster board display mounted on corrugated cardboard box pieces and supported by the same on the back. I used all 15 sheets of the flip charts downloaded from my computer. I made orange and yellow 4-inch tall letters for the title, "Food Fish Consumption." We want to have active participation from the classroom teachers and their students at our AWLI Wetlands Festival in May. I could use my planned revised poster display and the handouts again for a passive exhibit. In addition, the teachers could bring in samples of student work and have those students demonstrate what they learned about making good food choices.
