Purdue Presents Global Warming Seminar
The seminar series “Go with the Flow-- Get to Know Our
Indiana Coastal Resources” will conclude on Wednesday, October 8, with a
talk on the effects of global warming on the Great Lakes basin. The
seminar will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Purdue University Calumet.
Brent Lofgren from the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research
Laboratory will discuss the possible changes in evaporation and
transpiration from the Great Lakes arising from global warming in his
seminar “The 21st Century Battle Between Precipitation and Evaporation
in the Great Lakes Water Cycle,” He argues that both processes will
increase and points to human-caused alterations as a major influence.
The seminar series is intended raise awareness of land use practices on
Lake Michigan’s coastal resources in Indiana. It is funded through a
grant Purdue Calumet received from the Lake Michigan Coastal Program.
Other sponsors are Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and the Indiana Department
of Natural Resources.
